Today, LB and I went to lunch at Fenns Quay. Not a first by any means as we go there regularly but today we were meeting Laureen (a friend of a friend and traveling the world) for the first time and... Continue reading →
My wish list series continues (January, March, April, May). Right now, I’m admiring these items: I’m so obsessed with pink and orange lately (I even acquired an orange/white desk!) so Sock Yarn / Fingering Weight – Hand Dyed Merino in Pink and Orange from WeelambCreations is calling... So, you may have seen my wishful posts in January, March, April, May and here’s June! As always, some of these are carried over from April and some may be carried over to July because everything I wish for doesn’t magically materialize. Orla Kiely... Continue reading →
Taking something that already exists and creating something new with it has such poetry – or at least that’s how I see it. It can also be described as resourcefulness, flexibility, thrift, or upcycling. You’ve read about my adventures making... Continue reading →
Don’t be fooled by its modest exterior, the Cork Button Company has as many buttons as you may ever need. We’ve mentioned this shop before in our Where To Buy Yarn in Cork City post, but this time it is featured all... Continue reading →
In two years of knitting, my husband has watched on as I’ve made baby blankets for other people’s children, scarves for other family members, and even things for myself, but finally last week it was his turn. Even the biggest... Continue reading →
I found the softest oversized cardigan at the second-hand shop last year. Its soft gray fibers begged to come home with me in spite of the fact that it resembled a coat more than a sweater. But it’s amazing what... Continue reading →
I adore pairing delicate circles of gently pickled cucumber. They are flavourful, crispy, but pair well with so many things. They’re well suited for picnic food and sandwiches. The beauty of homemade quick pickles for summer sandwiches & salads is that... Continue reading →
Creating something new and useful from something already created is almost always appealing to me so the classic design of a wine cork just had to find a way to be enjoyed beyond the bottle. Considering what I needed most, I... Continue reading →
It was the summer before we got married, several years ago when the delivery man arrived on our doorstep with a box. It was our very first wedding gift. I opened it with enthusiasm and curiosity. A gentle shiver creeping... Continue reading →
Art is what you make of it, but I’ll admit that I do not think of my knitting or sewing or cooking or crafts as works of art. My drawings and paintings are art, perhaps even my graphics, but somewhere... Continue reading →
I love my parents’ old cameras. The click, the texture, the everything! Having the pebble leather grips on the side and the movement from click to winding the shutter. Poetry. But when you’re on the go in a modern world... Continue reading →
This post is trying to focus on the upcoming new year with a focus on self-improvement through kinder and more polite communications online. With more and more friendships having the bulk of their communications through Facebook, Twitter, or MySpace, there... Continue reading →
A couple of years ago, I was handed a big bag of acrylic hand knits that wreaked of cigarette smoke. Stunning stitch work and amazing dedication to her craft, but I needed to neutralize the odor without making it all... Continue reading →
If you’ve not heard of Bananagrams and if you like word games, you may have just found your new favorite game! We discovered our love of the game over a Thanksgiving visit to Mendocino, California. Wandering into a fun toy... Continue reading →
A list of where to buy knitting yarn in Cork City. Some will even ship to your home if you’re visiting so you don’t have overweight luggage. I also recommend you check out a wonderful list I compiled of all... Continue reading →
I recently had a little mini shopping spree at a yarn shop in Bethesda, Maryland. The yarn selection felt rather exotic compared to what the yarn shops in Cork City carry and boy do they have a wide selection of... Continue reading →
I’ve been loving couscous lately! For a nice light lunch, I tried and fell for Brussels Sprouts with Couscous. This could work well with other vegetables, like green beans. The recipe makes enough for a side dish for four people, but I put the individual amounts in parenthesis after each ingredient since it’s such a quick thing to prepare for yourself, an intimate dinner, or a big family meal. It is served hot/warm. Continue reading →
Did it in January & March too. Books for Baby Extra Yarn by Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen Tickle Time!: A Boynton on Board Board Book (Boynton Board Books) Noodle’s Knitting – UPDATE: Got it! Boys Don’t Knit! Knitting Nell The Knitting... Continue reading →
Last year before the whole motherhood thing happened, I felt completely worn out with a low fever so I surmised I was battling something and rested. Two days spent cuddled up under a blanket in my PJs. I knew I... Continue reading →
