As I mentioned last summer, I visited my parents to see them and planned to work on many projects in their house. One of those projects is the redecoration of my Mom’s bathroom which she can see from her bed, where she spends a lot of time the past few years while her MS has been bad. The bathroom was a cheerful sky blue with a simple white shower curtain, but it needed updating to something more soothing. The blue made the tiles look old and a bit blah. As you can see in these BEFORE photos. But since the tiles are in wonderful shape and still shiny and unchipped, it seemed to make the most sense to mind our budget and just try a different wall colour.
The vintage tile has a tint of green to it so I matched it to Sherwin-Williams Knitting Needles then matched that to BEHR (because my Mom prefers BEHR and she’s the boss when it comes to brand loyalty). This is the same colour I ended up using for their breakfast room too.
The cost was simply that of the grey wall paint (half-gallon) and the new InterDesign Moxi Fabric Shower Curtain, Yellow and Gray, 72-Inch by 72-Inch (below) I bought from Amazon.com.
The result is subtle, soothing and rather modern for such a vintage space. I collected stained-glass mirrors from around the house and put them in here for brightness and a fun collection. Only one is shown in this photo because I just couldn’t bring myself to share a photo of a toilet on my blog.
I’m delighted and so is she. It completely brightens up the existing tile (I didn’t even clean the tiles for this photo!).
What do you think?
I’m really enjoying the design and layout of your website.
It’s a very easy on the eyes which makes it much more pleasant for me to come here
and visit more often. Did you hire out a developer
to create your theme? Exceptional work!
Thanks, Joshua. No, I used a free theme and made it work for me with my own custom graphics.
