Book Review: Sully P. Snooferpoot's Amazing New Shadow by Aaron Loyel Shaw PhD

I’m always on the lookout for different children’s books to read with LB. You know, we love the classics like Goodnight Moon, but also ones that remind him that being himself is important. This week’s great find is Sully P. Snooferpoot’s Amazing New Shadow by Aaron Loyel Shaw PhD.

I read this book with LB and he loved the illustrations. He is a bit young to understand the message behind the story, but he will in time. The hand-drawn illustrations are wonderful because they show what real drawings are like. This is especially important for children who may feel intimidated by “perfect” computer illustrations and thinking they themselves cannot draw well if stroke marks show. That in itself made me love this book, but then the adorable storyline had me hooked too. Especially the creative shadows the children chose. Nothing scary or mean, just what kids would choose. This is a charming book that I look forward to reading to my son again and again. I was also delighted to find one that I could have on my iPad since that makes it eternally portable.

Other kids books I love are:

Will have to check that one out. We’ve really enjoyed Peepo by Janet & Alan Alhberg and also anything by Julia Donaldson is a favorite to my little one. We miss a lot of the classics from home though and always end up bringing books back with us.
