Knitting Petal by Michele Wang in Lorna’s Laces

I just can’t get enough of knitting for babies and children. I love creating special gifts for my friends’ children especially and my friend Marseille loves knitting for her nieces and nephew. One cardigan she knit for her niece was the Petal by Michele Wang from BT Kids using Lorna’s Laces Sportmate. The texture in this cardigan is intricate and lovely.

Marseille carefully chose the yarn and colorway for this project. The pattern itself
went along fine. Though, she admits, “If I were to make this again, I’d ignore instructions to use the lifted increase, and do an increase by knitting in the stitch below. Much smoother increase. I laddered down and fixed some, but not all.” Each arm has 68 rows before edging.

Found perfect buttons–small purple flowers, just a smidge darker than the yarn! Considered white mother-of-pearl-looking buttons, but went with purple flowers.

This is how the buttons look all sewn in.

And check out the lovely ribbon band Marseille created.

The cardigan won a Blue Ribbon at the Anne Arundel County Fair in 2014.

And one last look at the finished cardigan after a year of frequent use. Still looking like new and going strong.
