Ireland’s Top 5 Best Sandy Beaches

Ireland is known for its rugged coastline and beautiful beaches. The best beach in Ireland is subjective and depends on personal preferences, and I’m not sharing the small best kept secret beaches in here because they often can’t handle crowds.

Side note: I’m kicking off my 12-part summer series of travel posts! My June posts focus on Europe, my July posts focus on the United States, and my August posts focus on Italy. All my travel posts including this series and all EvinOK posts since 2011 can be found here. Come September, my usual blend of recipes, crafts, and travel will resume – but for summer let’s indulge a bit of wanderlust.

But back to the beach! My friends were kind enough to weigh in on the list so it was peer-reviewed kinda. LOL. But had to choose just five for this post, so here are my Top 5 Best Beaches in Ireland:

  • Inchydoney Beach, County Cork: This Blue Flag beach is known for its wide expanse of white sand and clear blue water. It’s a great spot for swimming, sunbathing, and surfing.
  • Strandhill Beach, County Sligo: This beach is a popular spot for surfers and is known for its consistent waves. It’s also a great spot for a scenic walk and offers views of Benbulben mountain.
  • Lahinch Beach, County Clare: Another blue flag beach, Lahinch is a popular spot for surfers and swimmers, as well as for beach games and sunbathing. It’s also home to the Lahinch Golf Club, one of Ireland’s oldest and most famous links golf courses.
  • Salthill, County Galway: This beach is a popular spot for families and is known for its safe swimming conditions. It’s also a great spot for a promenade walk and offers views of Galway Bay.
  • Banna Strand, County Kerry: Banna Strand is a beautiful Blue Flag beach, located near Tralee. It’s a great spot for swimming, sunbathing, and beach games.

These are just a few examples, but Ireland has many other beautiful beaches worth visiting such as Derrynane beach, Curracloe Strand, and Ballybunion beach.

I know this post will ruffle some feathers, so please set me straight on what the very best beaches are in your opinion. Comment with your favorite beach in Ireland.
