Mash Ups in My Mind

Sometimes, I’m listening to a song and I am hit with the memory of another song tickling my synapses like wind through tree leaves. It might be a similar chord progression, base beat, or sound. I then momentarily wish to devote long hours on computer to perfecting the perfect mashup remix awesomeness. Then I remember I have enough on my plate and just jot down the song names for another day. Well, today, I am giving you this gift. Whether they are meant to be mashups or destined for a copyright infringement lawsuit, who knows, but promise me that if you mashup these tunes, post the link in the comments so I can enjoy your creative efforts?

Betty Who’s Just Like Me and Blue October’s Into the Ocean

The Honeycomb’s Have I The Right and Violent Femmes’s American Music and Twisted Sister’s We’re Not Gonna Take It

Fun’s Some Nights and Kansas’s Carry On Our Wayward Son

Ke$ha’s Tik Tok and Katy Perry’s California Girls

Milky Chance’s Flashed Junk Mind and Blur’s Song 2

Fun’s Carry On and Green Day’s Good Riddance

Blondie’s The Tide Is High and Bob Marley and the Wailers’s Stir It Up

Langhorne Slim’s Worries and White Stripes’s Doorbell

Marvin Gaye’s Got to Give It Up and Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines (maybe just mash in Pharrell’s “hey hey hey” part of Blurred Lines and let Marvin’s genius roll with the rest?)

Modest Mouse’s Float On and Lupe Fiasco’s The Show Goes On

Capital Cities’s Safe and Sound and MGMT’s Kids

The Ting Ting’s Shut Up And Let Me Go and The Waitresses’s I Know What Boys Like

Ya Ya by Lee Dorsey and Rehab by Amy Winehouse

Green Day’s She’s A Rebel and Jawbreaker’s Boxcar

The Beatles’s Lady Madonna and Sublime’s What I’ve Got

Emeli Sandé’s Next To Me and Avicii’s Wake Me Up

The Archie’s Sugar Sugar and One Direction’s What Makes You Beautiful

Sam Smith’s Stay With Me and Tom Petty’s Won’t Back Down

The Ramones’s Blitzkrieg Bop (Hey Ho Let’s Go) and Joan Jett’s Bad Reputation

Hoagy Carmichael’s Heart and Soul and Ricky Nelson’s Poor Little Fool

Schoolhouse Rock’s Telegraph Line and The Who’s Pinball Wizard

Bon Jovi’s Livin’ on a Prayer and Bananarama’s Venus

White Stripes’s I’m Lonely and Janis Joplin’s Mercedes Benz

Carbon Leaf’s American Tale and Avicii’s Wake Me Up

Now these might not be as obvious sound-wise, but the topics would be awesome mashed together.

Mackelmore’s Thrift Shop and Madonna’s Material Girl

B*Witched’s C’est La Vie and Shakira’s She Wolf

The Lumineers’s Stubborn Love and Vance Joy’s Mess Is Mine

And totally not meant for a mash-up because of the legal issues these songs’ musicians have weathered, but how can different songs have the same sound? Did they all watch the same commercial with the same catchy jingle and it built up from there?

Coldplay – Viva La Vida

Creaky Boards – The Songs I Didn’t Write

Joe Satriani – If I Could Fly

Cat Stevens – Yusuf (Foreigner Suite)

What songs do you think sound like they’d fit well together? I know I’m not the only one who listens to music with a million other songs in her mind. I mean, look at these mashups already on YouTube. Here’s one: The Police and Bruno Mars

Happy weekend!
