I can’t believe I’m even writing this down, but someone was impressed I make my own homemade cranberry sauce when I mentioned it and I had to tell them it’s SO easy. And fairly essential in Ireland where canned cranberry sauce is hard to source.
If I am able to buy a jar of Yummie Foods locally produced cranberry conserve, I warm it and serve it instead of making my own. You can buy it from Farmsy or NeighbourhoodFood. I did a taste test blog post of all the jarred cranberry sauces in Ireland, but this locally made one beats them all.
But in case I can’t find the Yummie Foods cranberry preserve, I have fresh cranberries and my backup plan. Here’s my easy recipe for homemade cranberry sauce.
Homemade Cranberry Sauce
340 grams / 12 ounces fresh cranberries
Zest from 1 orange
Juice from 1 orange
1. Bring water to a boil in a medium pot then reduce to medium and stir in the sugar. Stir a few minutes until it has dissolved completely.
2. Reduce heat to low. Stir in fresh cranberries, orange zest, and orange juice then let simmer to thicken to sauce consistency. This can take 8-15 minutes.
Note: You can make this ahead of time and store it in a pyrex or mason jar on the fridge to warm up at meal time.
