From Sacred Cake on Etsy, Elegance like Anna Wintour’s necklaces

For three years now, I’ve been admiring the jewellery handcrafted by Sacred Cake on Etsy. Sacred Cake takes vintage components to create bespoke necklaces in the traditional style, much like true vintage necklaces, like Anna Wintour’s necklaces. This is classic without being staid or Stepford.

I first learned about Sacred Cake when I was looking for a statement necklace that had everyday elegance, a touch of sparkle, and plenty of style. After seeing Jennifer Valentine’s shop on Etsy, I followed the shop on Facebook as well. Around the time of my liver surgery, she hosted a giveaway and I actually won! It was just the pick-me-up I needed during that ordeal. The necklace I won was green, like my eyes.

But my green necklace was lonely and just as Anna Wintour wears two, three, or even four of her vintage assemblage necklaces layered together, I wanted to emulate that style myself. After admiring the necklace for AGES, I took the plunge and ordered one (like this one).

It is stunning. I feel glamorous wearing it, but somehow it even looks amazing with a black sweater and jeans!

It catches the light just so and is a neutral enough blue with deep iridescent tones that shimmer warm light like their own faceted sunset. The necklace itself is adjustable, so it can be a choker or extend to 18 inches.

The iridescence of the vintage elements means the necklace goes with a little bit of everything. And it has the classic appearance and style of a strand of pearls, without feeling like you need to be a lady who lunches or married to a president.

Here it is beside the green necklace I won a few years ago. They’re so happy together.

You can see here how pearls are classic, but don’t always pack a style punch, whereas the bright colors and sparkle are a nice counterpoint.
