Embracing the Humble Yarn Over: Good Vibes Scarf

Six months after I learned to knit, I was given one skein of Noro by Vibes & Scribes as part of a challenge to see what members of their in-shop knitting group could knit with one skein of the wools they stock. I brainstormed how to make the most of 110 yards of Worsted weight Noro Kureyon yarn. Stockinette usually has the most bang for yardage, but for this I felt inspired to knit a scarf so that wouldn’t be enough width. I turned to the trusty yarn over to help me with this.

The pattern isn’t anything I’ve ever written down. It is simply garter stitch rows (two or three) between double yarn over rows. Then the row right after I create the YOs, I drop them and knit into the big loop. So, no increasing, no descreasing, just big YO gaps letting air and light through for an interesting design. I wasn’t very consistent with the rows between the YOs, but it worked out nicely for a boho vibe. I named it the Good Vibes Scarf and it is on display at Vibes & Scribes on Bridge Street in Cork City to this day.

I’m still amazed there was enough yarn in that one ball to make a [short] scarf. What one-skein project has you still marvelling?
