Today was an odd sunny, snowy day in Cork so I felt like something special. I enjoyed a mug of hot chocolate for breakfast and then fixed a batch of Rice Krispie Treats for my friend Kate. I’ll admit that I can resist most cakes, cookies, and candy, but I LOVE a batch of kosher Rice Krispie treats. They make them with chocolate here, which isn’t my thing but is really lovely. I am all about the American-style Rice Krispie Treats myself.
I used to swear by the Original Rice Krispie Treat Recipe. What’s not to love? But I’ve adapted it a bit over the years and thought I’d share that recipe here. Their official recipe includes microwave instructions, which I’ve never tried.
American-style Rice Krispie Treats
Ingredients
4 tbsp Butter
Equal parts Rice Krispies and Marshmallows
Directions
In a large pan, melt the butter over low heat.
Stir in the marshmallows and melt them. This takes patience and you need to trust the process.
Stir in the cereal bit-by-bit making sure it is coated by the gooey melted marshmallows.
If the ratio looks off, add a handful more of Rice Krispies.
Transfer to a wax paper-lined pan and try to tame the gooey mixture into a shape within the pan.
Cut and serve.
Finishing Touch: For something a bit different, stick a clean food-safe popsicle stick into one end of each treat then dip the opposite end in melted chocolate and add sprinkles. Let cool (accelerate in fridge) before serving so the chocolate can set.
But, there is always a place in my heart for these easy-to-make American-style Rice Krispie Treats.
If you want to skip the chocolate, you can still make them festive by adding sprinkles for some themed fun. Here, I used a pastel spring sprinkle mix, which included bunnies & chicks.
