… decorations bought at Tiffany’s

Since 1953, Eartha Kitt has been singing to Santa for some luxurious necessities. Get one of the most extravagant ornaments just as the Santa Baby* line wishes for, “Come and trim my Christmas tree with some decorations bought at Tiffany.” There are so many items to choose from, ranging in price, style, and purpose. I personally prefer the designs that do not have “Tiffany & Co.” engraved all over it. The items with a more interesting history…

Remember in ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ when Fred (aka Paul) wanted to buy something for Holly at Tiffany & Co., but only had $10. They considered a silver telephone dialer for her, but it lacked romance. The days of rotary telephones are gone so Tiffany no longer sells the item, but out of curiosity I looked for the least expensive unromantic, classically-styled, sterling silver item in their online store. Using the advanced search, I found the Tiffany 1837 Bookmark for $110 (FYI: In 2008 it was $75) (photo below). There is also a modern Apple Bookmark for $60 (down $5 since 2008) and, for something a bit more romantic, a few simple necklace chains, including this one that is under $70.

Looking for a gift for him that is luxuriously Tiffany and a bit of a nod to a bygone era when all men wore suits to the office, other than bookmarks and shirt studs, the best bet for a dress shirt-wearing man is the Tiffany 1837 Collar Stay for $100 ($55 in 2008).

If nothing else will do and you simply must have a vintage Tiffany & Co. sterling silver telephone dialer, you can usually find one or two (four at the moment) on Ebay.com and Ebay.co.uk. Looking for Tiffany & Co. vintage items in general? Here is a link to the related search on Ebay.com and on Ebay.co.uk. Of course, sometimes a plain old Google search turns up options too.
