Today, I opened up in the Irish Examiner about my experience as an American celebrating Thanksgiving in Ireland. An ocean apart from family, the next five weeks are the hardest for most expats, especially myself. But go read the article.
And if you’re also an expat and looking for ingredients, I have a few blog posts to help you along.

Happy Thanksgiving!
I, too, am an expat, but I am in England. I am married to a Brit, so it is harder for me to keep the American traditions. I think because I am the child of Danish immigrants to the US, we never celebrated Thanksgiving as much as most, so I don’t miss it quite as much as others might. Also, having lived in the UK for 20 years this year (has it really been 20 years? Am I really that old?), I have gone native on a lot of things. But saying that, I do miss a good parade and a marching band!
Have a lovely Thanksgiving and enjoy your turkey!
The parade is my favorite part too. Well, and the countless vegetable side dishes! Happy Thanksgiving, Lise.
Just read your article in the paper. Wanted to say Happy Thanksgiving today, from an Irish girl just returned after 15 years in Maine. Definitely a wonderful holiday, and I will continue to celebrate it with my two little (American!) turkeys! 🙂
How did your little turkies enjoy their Irish Thanksgiving? Delighted you liked the piece in the Irish Examiner! I was also on RTE1 Today Show yesterday. I’m on at the 30-minute mark. http://www.rte.ie/player/ie/show/10349229/
