Knitting Love Actually is All Around by Sara J Bench

I love hearts and valentines. They have special meaning for me, so when I saw my friend Marseille knit a beautiful cowl with hearts, I was quite enthusiastic about seeing it. And she was kind enough to tell me about her experience knitting Knitting Love Actually is All Around by Sara J Bench. The design featured in Knitty, Winter 2012.

Love Actually is All Around

The Pattern & Process

This is a bold, cheerful, and warm design what plays off contrasting colors nicely. This cowl is a reversible double-knit which has a written pattern and chart for the knitter. And it’s knit in the round! The double knitting creates both visual interest and additional warmth.

The Yarn

Marseille used 87 grams of Lola’s handspun with 117 grams of Knockando Woolmill Undyed Norwegian Dala Wool DK cheviot. She used US 8 – 5.0 mm needles.

The original pattern was knit using Madelinetosh Tosh DK 100% superwash merino; 225yd/206m per 100g skein. The pattern uses one skein in Tart colorway for MC and one skein in Calligraphy for CC.

The Result

The contrast between the rich red and the creamy natural wools makes for a very fun result. Perfect for a winter layer.
