Woven Houndstooth Scarf

Back again with another tale of my friend Marseille‘s weaving, a neutral woven houndstooth scarf she made with Cascade Yarns Eco Duo in Rose and Camel. She bought these wools at A Tangled Skein in Hyattsville, Maryland.

This scarf won Blue Ribbon at Anne Arundel County Fair, September 13, 2013.

Marseille explained, “The 2×2 houndstooth is terribly easy, and looks amazing.  Just warp your loom with two threads of color A, then two of color B.  And when you weave, alternate colors every two rows.
This yarn is beautiful and soft like puppy ears, but it wasn’t a terribly good choice for weaving. Marseille explained, “it is lovely yarn, but lightly spun, and wouldn’t have stood up to any more abrasion than it had, during the weaving.  Realize that if the yarn is as large or larger than the holes/slots in the reed, it *will* abrade the yarn, and give a fuzzier-than-expected feel to the fabric.  This can be a plus or a minus.  If I were to use this yarn again, I’d probably go up a dent size (‘dent’ is number of slots/holes per inch) on my reed (reed is the large piece the warp threads go through, that raises and lowers the warp).”

And as much as it can accompany a cosy coat in winter, it also is a warm accessory for an autumn garden party.

Naturally, I offered to model it for some photos just to have the chance to pet, wear, and touch it! So soft.
