Madame Tricot’s Book “Delicatessen” and 3D Knitting Exhibit at Sibler in Zürich

This is a special post about a unique way knitting and crochet are used in window display. The photos were taken by Niall Twamley on his trip to Zurich and they’re enthralling!

So, it all starts with a book, Madame Tricot “Delicatessen” and its focus on knitting food in accurate detail. The book itself retails for €28 or can be ordered from Sibler directly, where they are exhibiting a selection of meats and cheeses from the book. It is one of many exhibitions.

The one Niall captured is at Sibler Münsterhof in Zürich. From August 13 to October 22, individual works of art from Madame Tricot book can be admired in their shop windows. And as an added bonus, from 4pm on Thursday, September 22, the artist, Dominique Kähler Schweizer, will do a book signing in the Sibler on the Münsterhof.

Now, let’s talk knitty gritty! Each piece is seamless and knit in one piece. The specialty of 3D knitted objects is a unique approach and a fun artistic expression. My favorite is the cheese plate!

From sausages to filets, they are amazing and more exquisite and palatable than the plastic-forged counterparts often seen in display windows.

Here are pigs feet. Something that is often revolting to see raw, yet here it is compelling.

It is hard enough to find flesh-colored knitting yarn, but this is the perfect hue for a pig. Not that I eat pigs, but this is adorable. I would have spent way too much time debating between a lemon and an apple for its mouth.

Like a butcher shop, but with the scent of wool not meat.

This looks more like crochet, but the detail is amazing. The tag, the feathers, etc…

If you were to knit any food, what would it be?

Thank you again to Niall for sharing these photos! Don’t miss the chance to check these pieces out in person if you’re in or near Zürich:

I’ve looked and cannot find a book with the patterns, unfortunately. But you may have luck if you search Ravelry for “pig” and scroll through to see if there is one you could adapt, Sylvie?
