Peipponen Shawl by Heidi Alander

My friend Aine Ní Cheallacháin from my regular knitting group just finished the most beautiful and soft crescent-shaped shawl so I asked if she’d be willing to share it with you and she agreed, so here is a post about her Peipponen Shawl, which was designed by Heidi Alander.

She cast on with Irish Fairytale Yarns, which is a knitting wool hand-dyed in our very own Cork, Ireland. Buy local. It took her less than three weeks (July 12–23) to knit the entire shawl! The merino wool feels almost cotton-y with its sturdiness and lack of fuzziness some 4-ply/sock weights have.

Irish Fairytale Yarns is an artisan hand-dyed yarn company. Here is the yarn she used in the original hank form. So delicious!!!

Here is a peek at another one of their colorways in the same 4-ply weight yarn. The Lilac Bouquet is just lovely, even if I don’t usually like purple.

Of course, blocking makes a world of difference as you can see from these photos of the final shawl in all its wearable glory.
