Broken Earring Repairing

Two weeks ago, I stopped in to Accessorise on a whim and left with €296.60 worth of broken jewellery for €11.10. I should have warned you to sit down before I told you that. Right, take a deep breath and know no theft was involved, just broken jewellery bits in bags that were reduced so significantly I knew that if I couldn’t mend the pieces, I could at least use them for parts, like to make stitch markers.

The first mended piece was a gold coin necklace with a broken clasp then I tackled broken teardrop earrings and after that five badly tangled brass/glass necklaces and reinventing a rosary style necklace into one more Jane Austen styled, then today’s post is about four pairs of earrings that were not totally broken, just seeking mates. So, this is less a crafty approach and more a resourceful solution.

Here are the four pairs of earrings I bought, each pair has a missing or broken dangly piece. Each of the four pairs cost €0.50 each. That’s €2 for today’s project. Retail value for two complete pairs of earrings = €15.80. I was working with the Gypsy Beaten Coin Earrings (the round ones) and the Workwear Teardrop Earrings (the teardrops).

So, my solution? I took one complete earring from each pair and made a new complete pair. Ta-da! When I say “repair” I suppose I really mean “re-pair.”

Then I did it again.

You may notice that though I showed the teardrop earrings actually in my ears, I cropped these photos so you get the sense the earrings are being worn, but I wasn’t actually wearing them because I don’t intend to keep the creations in this post. I photographed this post’s earrings by holding them up to my ears, but not putting them in my earring holes. Magic photography and cropping!

What have you switched around to make functional lately?

Great projects! I was given a bod of old broken jewelry about 5 years ago and use it continually to embellish silk flowers or re-use clasps like you did. Theres no end to the usefulness of the gift. I enjoy making velvet chokers but havent added them to my weebly site yet. Go there to see the outfits and hats I make. Thanks for the inspiration!
