Sewing Koala Mittens (aka Paw Protectors)

The adorable koalas of New South Wales, Australia have been in the news this week as efforts are underway to protect their singed paws as they hell from brushfire burns. Koalas are not the speediest creatures in the brush so escaping devastating brushfires is a challenge and if separated from family, the joeys (aka baby koala bears) often hold into their trees waiting for their mothers. It is fortunate though that the rescued koalas are finding the necessary care. Daily burn cream is applied and bandages and protective covering is needed to keep their paws clean and protected as they heal. The Paw Protectors must be made from clean 100% cotton fabric – woven or jersey works well evidently. Once sewn, you can send your creation(s) to:
