Bake Knit Sew Book Update

UPDATE: This book was published in 2014. Learn all about it HERE.

It has been what seems like a short time since my successful Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for my first ever book, Bake Knit Sew – in reality it was back in December! So, I wanted to post a brief update to tell you how it is going as we approach the final weeks of the process. As a self-published book, I relied heavily on volunteers and skilled freelancers. I am fortunate to have Kristin Jensen as my recipe editor and Suzanne McEndoo, Ph.D. as my pattern editor. Meanwhile, on the creative front Natasha Crowley has been amazing with styling my creations to accentuate their beauty and usefulness.

The book process has been a labor of love, but certainly a lot of labor. There were nearly ten photoshoots, countless test baking sessions, and so many moments of doubt. Each time I felt that doubt creep in, I thought of the 121 backers on Kickstarter (and four others who supported the project privately)! They believe in my project and in my abilities so I knew I could do this.

The biggest photoshoot was in early June with a team of volunteers. Here we are partway through the day. Left to Right: Arlene (model), Andrea Murphy (make-up artist), Me, Maire (model), Natasha Crowley (stylist), Andrew Cronin (hair stylist), Kate (model).

Every Friday and some Sundays, I tested the recipes (again and again) then on Saturday mornings, I would style and photograph them. Arlene was with me that day.

A successful test baking session!

It wasn’t all photoshoot glamour and sweet baked goods though, there was a lot of sewing and knitting to be done. Thankfully, I chose some wonderful supplies. Here is a photo of one of the yarns featured in the book, an Irish Aran wool from the Cork-based dyer Smudge Yarns.
