While in Portugal, we were fortunate to visit the Aloha Beach House Hostel in Parede, which is about 20 minutes by train from Lisbon along the coast. The hostel itself is in a rather posh residential area two blocks from the train station and only three blocks from the beach. It is on Booking.com, TripAdvisor and AirBnB and Facebook.
The Aloha Beach House Hostel is newly opened and beautifully decorated. If you love Pinterest, you’ll love seeing the big design plan to the little details and touches the owners have implemented in the rooms. I took A LOT of photos!
We were greeted by a vintage door.
A long cream hallway connects the front door to the ground floor bedrooms, bathroom, gathering room, dining room, kitchen, and entrance to the hostel’s outdoor area. Check out those aesthetically-weathered floorboards. They look old but are not creaky. The place had a calming silence about it, like the inside of a seashell.
The bedroom we stayed in was simply decorated with a large bed and shuttered windows (like the rest of the house so daytime naps stay in and summer heat stay out). We forgot to take a photo of the bed before we slept in it. There was a cot on-hand for LB but we just had him bunk with us in the bed since it was so spacious. This distressed painted board with two galvanised steel buckets bolted to it hung on the wall to stow our towels.
The shared bathroom on the main floor feels like the perfect beach house bathroom. Two showers, one loo stall, and two sinks. The hanging lanterns are evocative of an exotic destination while the soap dispensers remind me of sea urchins. The upcycled pallets on the wall offer a texture.

Old wood crates were transformed into the TV console with dream-catching fly-fishing-lure inspired door pulls.
Stained distressed pallets supported long cushy bench sofas. The far wall is a stone wallpaper!
The light fixtures are made of what looks like long strips of linguine (it’s not, just looks like it) white-washed.
Stacked positive messages hang above the squishy beanbag chairs.
The dining room has an old farmhouse feel but with a crisp clean modern take on the idea. The cabinet on the left had coffee, tea, and basic dried goods.
The light fixture is an upside-down stainless pot (I think from IKEA)! The mirror on the wall is a plain white-framed mirror with sticks glued around the edges and painted. Wait, I’ll give you a closer look at the mirror.

The kitchen had its original vintage weathered tile. The stove nestled into its own nook while a large cupboard houses all the tableware. The door leads to the outdoor area (don’t worry, we’ll get there). Our hostess surprised us with fresh baked goods in the morning, knowing we were tired from a 12-hour trip (fog delays).
The dish-drying rack above the sink has a nostalgic charm.
Lanterns on the floor added a nice casual feel. There was also a basket with €5 bottles of wine for sale on the honor system. Brilliant!
The main outdoor area is calm yet vibrant. I love the touches of bright pink. LOVE! Seriously, I could look at this view all day. The outdoor showers are so practical and the long table brings a casual sit-down-and-take-a-load-off vibe to the space.
Curtains loop around the posts for the seating area, allowing them to come down for a cosier quiet feel.
Rolled grass/twig shades cover the long table for protection from the elements and a bit of privacy.
There is also an outdoor cooking area and grill!
More seating on the other side of the grill.
You know this was my favorite element, aside from the pink outdoor shower doors.

Here’s a peek at the main entrance part of the terrace. You can see the sign pointing to the beach. The beach that is literally three blocks walk!
The front outdoor area carries the oasis design theme.
