Over the years, there have been things said to me that are so absurd or off-the-wall that they are filed away in the back dusty corner of my brain in the hope that one day the statements will make sense. That rarely happens so I thought I should share them here, anonymously. Perhaps it will reassure you that each of us encounters a little crazy and nonsensical behavior in our lives.
“You’re going to get fat if you keep eating peanut butter and whole milk.” – This was said by someone eating bacon and sausage. Keep in mind, whole milk is only 4% fat.
“If you date so-and-so you can be a placeholder until I’m ready to date him.”
“I don’t want you to stay here alone in case you die and stink up the place.”
“Could you die? A friend of mine needs a double lung and heart transplant.” – This was said over lunch.
“It’s impossible to get Chicken Pox twice.” – Actually, it’s not though it is very rare.
“If you don’t get Chicken Pox as a child, you’ll get Shingles when you’re older.” – The opposite is true actually. Shingles is the reactivation of the Chicken Pox virus later in life.
“If you don’t lower your standards, you’ll never get married.” – That turned out to be untrue.
Sometimes when people say crazy things, I wonder what they hope to communicate or accomplish with such behavior. What kinds of crazy things have people said to you? How do you respond? With words or just with this kind of expression…
