Knitting the Slouchy Copy Cat Hat for Winter Warmth

Because hat season is official upon us, both my posts this week are about hand knit hat patterns to keep our noggins cosy. You know those projects you knit again and again… and again? Well, the Slouchy Copy Cat Hat by Terra Jamieson is just that. Come back on Thursday when the Baa-ble Hat by Donna Smith will be in the spotlight. For my Australian and New Zealand readers who are entering Spring, a hand knit shawl is the perfect transitional piece and I have oh so many knit shawl/wrap posts for you in my archives.

Materials

The Slouchy Copy Cat Hat pattern is a slouchy hat that stays put on your head, but also popular because it is a quick knit using less than 200 yards of your favourite worsted weight yarn. With 2,134 projects (and in almost as many queues), this free pattern is definitely here to stay in the hearts of knitters everywhere.

Marseille knit her first Slouchy Copy Cat Hat in Malabrigo Yarn Rios in the Archangel colorway. She bought the yarn at The Salty Sheep Yarn Shop in Swansboro, North Carolina because we all know yarn is the best souvenir.

The pattern uses 160–180 yards of worsted. Knit in the round on two different sized circular knitting needles (4mm/US6 and 5mm/US8), the pattern brings out the beauty of semi-solid or colourful yarns.

Process

It’s an easy pattern with slipped stitches done in the round for a lovely color medley within its own colorway. The warm colors within Malabrigo Yarn Rios in the Archangel Colorway really look amazing with this pattern. No excuses if you are looking for a beginner’s pattern to top your look off this winter.
