This Saturday, Carol Feller hosted an Open Day at her Stolen Stitches studio & shop in Cork’s Tramore Commercial Park. It was an opportunity to see her many samples, browse yarns for her new patterns, visit with other knitters, and maybe do a little shopping.
The Studio
Carol Feller has created an oasis of craftiness and color within otherwise ordinary beige walls.
Visitors are greeted by displays with her designs, books, and yarns.
The Day
The Open Studio brought a lovely mix of local knitters to visit, have tea/coffee, enjoy a biscuit or two, and even do a bit of knitting in an inspiring environment. Really, what better place to knit and talk about knitting than one filled with woolly goodness?! I saw many of my friends there and caught up on the latest chat, which mostly consisted of what’s on our needles now and how the kids are settling back into routine.
Nua Yarn
Carol Feller’s Nua, a sports weight yarn, is 60% Merino Wool, 20% Yak, 20% Linen. Each of these fibres contributes something special to create an amazing yarn blend. Nua is non-superwash, which creates a lighter yarn with a bit more bounce, making blocking easier, and keeping shape nicely. Sold in 140 metres per 50g skeins. It is so soft and wonderful against the skin. I have a lot of fibre allergies, but this yarn is great for me to wear.
Sea Bubbles
Carol Feller recently released Sea Bubbles, her new shawl design, using Falkland Merino 4ply Singles by Woolly Mammoth Fibre Company. It is a fun mix of airy texture and squishy warmth, just perfect as we tip-toe into chillier months. But by the look and feel of it, Sea Bubbles is destined to be a year-round shawl.
So Many Knits, So Little Time
Her other projects were displayed on workshop tables, usually organised by publication or yarn. So many projects to knit, so little time. You may see some familiar favourites from Echoes of Heather and Stone here alongside classics from previous books, Among Stones, Nua Collection Volume 1, Nua Collection Volume 2, Scrumptious Knits, Short Row Knits, Contemporary Irish Knits, and Knitting with Rainbows (and more).

Knitting with Rainbows is all about gradient yarns and the options available to knit beautiful accessories. Here are items from the book, which has patterns inspired by the urban landscape of Cork city.
